NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained at Delhi Airport for about 45 minutes on Sunday while candidates were travelling to centres for the NEET-UG re-examination, according to official information.
Officials said Modi arrived at the airport at around 1:15 p.m. and stayed there until the examination began at 2 p.m.
According to officials, the decision was aimed at ensuring smooth traffic movement in the national capital during a period when large numbers of students were travelling to their examination centres.
The movement of the Prime Minister’s convoy generally requires traffic management measures and temporary restrictions along designated routes. Officials said the delay helped avoid potential disruption to candidates heading to examination centres.
After the examination commenced at 2 p.m., Modi left the airport for his residence.
The NEET-UG re-examination is being conducted under enhanced security arrangements following the cancellation of the earlier test amid allegations of irregularities and paper leaks.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) said more than 2.2 million candidates are appearing at 5,440 centres across India and 14 centres abroad.
Security measures include CCTV monitoring, AI-assisted surveillance, signal jammers, biometric verification and the deployment of observers and examination staff to ensure the smooth conduct of the test.
NEET-UG is India’s largest medical entrance examination and serves as the gateway to undergraduate medical courses across the country.
