Pakistan gets its own ‘Cockroach Party’ after Indian meme movement goes viral

Pakistan Cockroach Party trend gains traction on social media

A meme-based online political movement inspired by India’s viral “Cockroach Janta Party” has now surfaced in Pakistan, where several social media pages using similar branding and satire are rapidly gaining popularity.

The emerging Pakistan Cockroach Party trend began with an Instagram page titled “Cockroach Awami Party”, which openly acknowledged that it drew inspiration from the Indian movement.

Its bio read: “Yes, we copied it. So what? The purpose is the same.”

The page had crossed more than 1,600 followers at the time of publication.

“We are not linked to any single person or organisation. We want to become the voice of Pakistan’s Gen Z,” the account said in one of its posts.

Meme politics crosses borders

The Pakistani page uses a logo similar to the Indian version but features green and white colours associated with Pakistan’s national identity.

The account positions itself as an alternative to mainstream political parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Peoples Party.

Most of its content includes memes, short videos and satirical posts aimed at younger audiences.

The account has also announced plans to release its official slogan on May 28.

Another social media page titled “Cockroach Awami League Pakistan” has also appeared online and claims to be the “official” version of the movement. Its Urdu slogan loosely translates to: “Alive in every situation.”

Unlike India’s meme-based political page, however, the Pakistani accounts currently appear fragmented, with multiple creators independently running similar pages.

Everest records highest single-day climb

In another international development, Nepal recorded its highest-ever single-day summit count on Mount Everest after 274 climbers reached the peak from the Nepal side in a single day.

Officials said clear weather conditions and improved climbing routes helped the expedition teams.

According to Nepal’s tourism department, the previous record stood at 223 climbers in May 2019.

Authorities have issued nearly 500 permits for Everest expeditions this season, the highest number on record.

Images circulating on social media showed long queues of climbers extending into Everest’s “death zone”, the area above 8,000 metres where oxygen levels are critically low.

Honduras shootings leave 25 dead

Meanwhile, at least 25 people were killed in two separate shootings in Honduras on Thursday.

Officials said 19 plantation workers died in an attack near Trujillo, while six police officers were killed in another ambush near the Guatemala border.

Authorities have launched investigations into both incidents and increased security deployment in the affected regions.
