Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Corridor project inaugurated

INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday inaugurated the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Corridor project, a four-lane highway intended to improve connectivity between the two cities and support traffic management during the Simhastha religious congregation.

The 48-kilometre corridor will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,935 crore. The route will begin near Pitra Parvat in Indore and extend to the Simhastha Bypass near Chintaman Ganesh Temple in Ujjain.

Officials said the project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Indore and Ujjain while easing traffic congestion during Simhastha, when millions of pilgrims visit Ujjain.

The project required the acquisition of 242.939 hectares of land from 917 farmers. According to officials, the State government has paid more than Rs 816 crore in compensation. Compensation was calculated using prevailing market and sale rates rather than collector guideline rates, resulting in payments ranging from four to eight times higher than conventional valuations.

The corridor will provide direct connectivity to 20 villages in Indore district and eight villages in Ujjain district. Authorities estimate that around 1.5 million residents of 40 to 50 surrounding villages will benefit from improved transport links and easier access to services.

Officials said the project would also facilitate the movement of pilgrims arriving from outside Madhya Pradesh by providing direct road connectivity from the airport to Ujjain and helping reduce traffic pressure during the Simhastha gathering.

State Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat also attended the inauguration ceremony.
