Bhopal Teen Dies After Drowning at Kaliyasot Dam

BHOPAL: A 17-year-old boy died after entering deep water at Kaliyasot Dam in Bhopal on Sunday, while a three-year-old girl died in a separate drowning incident later the same day, police said.

The teenager had visited the dam with three friends. According to police, the group entered a restricted section of the reservoir to take photographs. The water appeared shallow near the edge but became deeper a short distance away. The boy reportedly lost his footing and disappeared beneath the water. His friends immediately alerted a nearby police outpost.

A rescue operation involving local divers was launched, and the body was recovered about two hours later. It was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Police said warning boards highlighting deep water and the possible presence of crocodiles had been installed at the site, along with fencing and barriers. However, some visitors continue to cross the safety restrictions and enter prohibited areas, increasing the risk of accidents.

In a separate incident, a three-year-old girl died after falling into a water-filled pit near a brick kiln in the Kajlikheda area. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police have registered separate cases and are investigating both incidents.
