Bhopal Civic Body Seals Six Coaching Institutes Over Fire Safety Lapses

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed six coaching institutes for failing to meet mandatory fire safety standards during a city-wide inspection drive.

The action was taken on Friday following inspections by teams from the civic body’s Fire Brigade and Revenue Department. The drive is part of an ongoing campaign to ensure hospitals, nursing homes, coaching centres and other institutions comply with fire safety rules.

Among the institutes sealed was Allen Career Institute at Lalghati. The remaining five institutes—Ayyub Khan Coaching, Shreyansh Coaching, Kirtiman Academy, Absolute Institute, and NITDP Training Online Institute—operate from Goyal Tower in Indrapuri.

Officials said Allen Career Institute lacked emergency staircases. They also found that the fire hydrant panel was not in automatic mode and was not connected to a separate power backup, making it non-compliant with prescribed safety standards.

At Goyal Tower, inspectors found no emergency staircases, expired fire extinguishers and inadequate ventilation. Officials said the building also failed to meet the fire safety requirements laid down under the National Building Code 2016.

According to the civic body, all six institutes had been issued notices on June 25, directing them to remove the shortcomings and install the required fire safety systems. As the deficiencies were not corrected within the given time, officials vacated the premises and sealed the institutes.

The inspection drive is being carried out on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, with more inspections expected across the city.
