Senior Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Wednesday questioned media reports claiming he had written to Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav over the alleged neglect of Indore.
When asked by reporters about the reported letter, Vijayvargiya replied, “I don’t know where you got this information from.” He did not confirm the existence or contents of the letter.
According to media reports, the letter, dated June 20, raised concerns over delays in several development projects linked to Indore. It reportedly said the Urban Development and Housing Minister had faced a lack of cooperation and neglect over the past two-and-a-half years and urged the Chief Minister to resolve issues affecting the city’s growth.
The reported letter listed several pending matters, including approval of Indore’s master plan, the naming of the Ujjain-Indore Metropolitan Region, land for the expansion of Indore airport, the proposed division of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), infrastructure in Pithampur and Indore’s role in Simhastha-related development works.
The reports also claimed Vijayvargiya warned that if these issues remained unresolved, he would be compelled to raise the concerns on a public platform.
The reported letter further stated that Indore’s master plan had been awaiting approval for nearly two years despite discussions at the departmental and Chief Secretary levels. It also objected to the name “Ujjain-Indore Metropolitan Region”, arguing that Indore is the state’s biggest economic centre and should remain at the centre of the project.
The letter reportedly questioned the proposed division of RGPV, saying no unit had been planned for Indore despite the city having more than 50 engineering colleges and being home to the Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS).
It also highlighted the lack of a national testing laboratory and product certification centre in Pithampur, sought faster land acquisition for Indore airport expansion and claimed the city had not received adequate attention in Simhastha preparations and during recent water shortages.
Reacting to the reports, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha said on X that if Vijayvargiya believed Indore had been neglected, then Jabalpur and the Mahakoshal region had even greater reasons for concern.
At the time of publication, there was no official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on the reported letter.
