FIR filed against Umang Singhar, 12 MLAs over highway blockade in Dhar

Police have registered an FIR against Umang Singhar, Kantilal Bhuria and several other Congress leaders in connection with the road blockade held near Khalghat toll plaza in Dhamnod on May 7 over farmers’ demands.

Police named 10 sitting and three former MLAs in the case. More than 25 Congress leaders have been booked for allegedly blocking traffic on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway during the protest.

Several Congress leaders named in FIR

The FIR includes the names of Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, Bala Bachchan, Honey Baghel, Pratap Grewal, Kantilal Bhuria, Sachin Yadav, Heeralal Alawa, Jhuma Solanki, Kedar Dawar and Montu Solanki.

Former MLAs Vijayalakshmi Sadho, Panchilal Meda and Naveen Joshi have also been named in the case. District Congress president Swatantra Joshi was among those booked.

Case registered under BNS and National Highways Act

Dhamnod Police registered the case under Crime No. 220/2026. Police invoked Sections 126(2) and 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 8(B) of the National Highways Act.

Officials said the action was taken because protesters allegedly blocked traffic on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway without permission.

Congress protest focused on farmers’ issues

Congress leaders organised the protest over issues related to crop insurance payments, shortage of fertilisers and seeds, and alleged unscheduled power cuts.

The blockade disrupted traffic movement on the highway for several hours. Authorities later diverted vehicles through alternative routes to manage congestion.

Heavy police deployment remained in place during the protest. Around 3 pm, the Dhar Collector reached the protest site and received a memorandum from Congress leaders. Protesters later announced the end of the agitation after submitting their demands.
