Officials said the growing participation of women in technical and industrial trades reflects increasing confidence among girls across the state. Training programmes are also helping women access better employment opportunities.
“Skill development programmes are creating new opportunities for girls and helping them build independent careers,” officials said.
Women participation rises in ITIs across the state
Madhya Pradesh currently has 934 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), including 290 government and 644 private institutions.
The government said admissions in government ITIs reached 94.55 percent during the 2025 academic session, marking the highest admission rate so far.
To encourage participation, 35 percent of seats in government ITIs have been reserved for women. Officials said the policy has led to a steady rise in female enrolment.
At present, more than 15,000 women trainees are enrolled in 71 modern trades across ITIs in the state.
Skill training for girls in Madhya Pradesh expands into technical trades
Girls are increasingly enrolling in technical and industrial courses such as Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Stenographer Hindi and Electrician.
Officials said the trend highlights changing social attitudes and rising awareness among families regarding technical education for women.
The state government is also operating seven government women’s ITIs to provide a safer and more supportive learning environment. In addition, hostel facilities are available in 56 government ITIs with more than 3,400 seats for women trainees.
These facilities are helping girls from remote and rural areas continue skill training and education.
Employment initiatives support women trainees
The department said its focus extends beyond training to employment generation.
Through special placement drives for women, 777 female trainees have secured jobs. The Driving Training Institute in Indore has also provided free driving training to 509 women.
Officials said these initiatives are helping women gain economic independence and confidence.
The government is also providing scholarships to more than 13,000 trainees belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minority communities, persons with disabilities and economically weaker sections.
Mukhyamantri Seekho Kamao Yojana benefits women
The Mukhyamantri Seekho Kamao Yojana is also contributing to women’s employment and skill development.
Thousands of girls have received on-the-job training opportunities in industries under the scheme. Officials said 5,660 women trainees have already completed training programmes.
Women such as Sneha Rajak from Sagar and Liya from Raisen have secured employment after completing their training and are now supporting their families financially.
International collaborations strengthen training programmes
The state government is also working with international organisations to improve future-ready skills among girls.
Under the “Jeevan Tarang” programme, around 3,000 girls receive skill training every year. With support from UN Women, girls are receiving STEM and soft skills training.
Officials said these programmes are helping women enter advanced technology and emerging employment sectors.
Girls from Madhya Pradesh shine at national level
Women trainees from Madhya Pradesh are also performing strongly in national skill competitions and examinations.
Trisha Tawde from the Government Women’s ITI in Betul secured first position in the Central Zone in the National Council for Vocational Training examination. She received recognition from Narendra Modi during a convocation ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Five girls from Madhya Pradesh also featured among the state’s top 10 All India Trade Toppers.
In another achievement, Premlata Rahangdale, a training officer from the Government Divisional ITI in Bhopal, received the National Teacher Award 2024 from President Droupadi Murmu.
