INDORE: Five persons were arrested with 1 kg of MD drugs worth around Rs 1 crore after a police chase on the Super Corridor in Indore on Tuesday, police said.
The Crime Branch seized the narcotics along with a country-made pistol and live ammunition during the operation. Officials said the total value of the seized contraband, vehicles and weapons is estimated at over Rs 1.21 crore.
According to police, a team had laid a trap after receiving information about suspected drug trafficking activity. When officers attempted to stop a black SUV and two motorcycles, the suspects allegedly tried to flee. During the chase, the SUV lost control and crashed into a divider, damaging the vehicle.
Police arrested five accused from Indore, Ujjain and Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district. Their identities and other unnecessary personal details have not been disclosed.
Investigators said the accused are being questioned to determine the source of the drugs and the intended supply network. Police are also probing the ownership of the SUV and possible links to a larger narcotics racket.
Officials said some of the accused worked as delivery riders and salon workers, while others were involved in farming activities.
