Guna Police have solved a Rs 17 lakh cash robbery within just 18 hours, arresting four accused and recovering almost the entire stolen amount in one of the fastest property crime investigations in Madhya Pradesh in recent months.
The operation was carried out as part of the state police’s ongoing drive against robbery, theft and other property-related crimes. Police arrested the two main accused, one person who allegedly helped them escape and another who is accused of providing information before the robbery.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Gwalior Zone Inspector General of Police Arvind Saxena, Deputy Inspector General Dr Asit Yadav and Guna Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal. Six special police teams were formed to trace the accused.
The robbery took place on 8 July, when three unidentified men allegedly sprayed a chemical into the eyes of an employee of a coriander trader from Kumbhraj near Nichla Bazaar Rapta in Guna city. The attackers then escaped with a bag containing Rs 17 lakh in cash.
After a case was registered at Kotwali Police Station, senior officers inspected the crime scene and announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for information leading to the arrest of the accused.
Police examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and other locations across the city, analysed technical evidence, activated local intelligence networks and intensified checks at district borders. These efforts helped investigators identify and arrest the two main accused within 18 hours of the crime.
During questioning, the accused allegedly revealed details of the robbery and the role of others involved. Based on their statements, police arrested two more people who are accused of helping the robbers escape and providing information before the crime.
Police recovered Rs 16,77,100 from the stolen amount, along with the vehicle allegedly used in the robbery and other evidence linked to the case.
Officials said the swift investigation reflected coordinated teamwork, scientific investigation methods and the effective use of technology. They added that Madhya Pradesh Police will continue strict action against those involved in robbery, theft and other serious crimes.
