Srikanth was named Best Hindi Film, while Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor award at the 72nd National Film Awards.

New Delhi: Article 370 emerged as the biggest winner at the 72nd National Film Awards, taking home the award for Best Feature Film. Actor Yami Gautam received the Best Actress award for her performance in the film, marking the first National Award of her career.

Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 is based on the events surrounding the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film was made on a budget of around Rs 20 crore and earned nearly Rs 110 crore worldwide.

The award for Best Hindi Film went to Srikanth, directed by Tushar Hiranandani. The biographical drama stars Rajkummar Rao as industrialist Srikanth Bolla. The film also features Jyotika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar in key roles. Reports suggest the film collected around Rs 60 crore globally against a budget of about Rs 35 crore.

The Best Actor award was shared by Mammootty for his performance in Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion. While Bramayugam is a Malayalam horror-thriller directed by Rahul Sadasivan, Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, is based on the life of Paralympic gold medallist Murlikant Petkar.

Among other major honours, Rajkumar Periasamy won the Best Director award for Amaran. The Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award went to Kalki 2898 AD, while Captain Miller received the award for the film promoting national and social values.

Regional cinema also received wide recognition. Raayan won Best Tamil Film, Committee Kurrollu was named Best Telugu Film, Lahari won Best Odia Film, Mukkam Post Bombilwadi received Best Marathi Film, and Sunita was declared Best Manipuri Film. Captain Miller and Meiyazhagan were honoured with Special Mentions.
