New Delhi: Milk prices are set to rise again as leading dairy brands Amul and Mother Dairy have announced an increase of Rs 2 per litre across several variants from May 14, according to media reports.
The revised prices will apply to key Amul products, including Standard Milk, Buffalo Milk, Gold, Slim & Trim, T-Special, Taaza and Cow Milk. Mother Dairy has also increased prices of its liquid milk variants by Rs 2 per litre.
According to reports, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, said the hike was necessitated by rising operational and production costs.
“The price hike is being done due to an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. There is a substantial increase in the cost of cattle feed, milk packaging film and fuel during the year,” GCMMF said in a statement, as quoted in reports.
The federation said the increase amounts to around 2.5 to 3.5 percent per litre, which it described as lower than the prevailing average food inflation.
Media reports said GCMMF member unions have also increased farmers’ procurement prices by Rs 30 per kg of fat, marking a 3.7 percent rise compared with May 2025.
The last milk price revision by Amul was implemented on May 1, 2025.
The latest increase by both dairy brands is expected to add pressure on household budgets amid rising living costs.
