The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday named a 15-member India women’s cricket squad for the 2026 Asian Games. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team, while Smriti Mandhana has been named vice-captain.
The Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October. India will aim to defend the women’s cricket gold medal won at the previous edition.
The squad includes Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, G. Kamalini, Bharti Fulmali, Sree Charani, Renuka Thakur, Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav and Nandni Sharma.
All-rounder Shreyanka Patil has also been included, subject to fitness. She is recovering from a twisted ankle that ruled her out of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The squad was announced a day after the India women’s team qualified for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to media reports.
The selection means Harmanpreet will continue as captain after India were knocked out in the group stage of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup in England, according to media reports. India lost to South Africa and Australia and did not reach the knockout stage.
India won their first Women’s ODI World Cup title last year. The team will now look to return to winning ways at the Asian Games.
