Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles during his state visit to the island nation, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the long-standing friendship between India and Seychelles, saying the relationship has been strengthened by cultural links and people-to-people connections over generations.
He said Seychelles holds an important place in India’s engagement with the Indian Ocean region and recalled his earlier visit to the country in 2015.
PM Modi also spoke about climate change challenges faced by island nations and stressed the need for collective efforts and sustainable development.
He said India and Seychelles share common interests in areas such as maritime cooperation, security and regional growth.
The Prime Minister highlighted cooperation between the two countries in sectors including digital technology, health, space and defence.
The visit focused on further strengthening India-Seychelles relations, with discussions on areas of mutual interest and future cooperation.
