BHOPAL: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has continued its drive against alleged illegal vending at Itarsi railway station and nearby areas, according to an official statement issued by the railway administration.
The statement said the campaign is aimed at enhancing passenger safety, maintaining order at railway premises and preventing unauthorised activities. Railway authorities said surveillance has been strengthened with the use of CCTV cameras, standalone surveillance cameras, body-worn cameras and drones. These systems are being used to monitor platforms, circulating areas, coaching yards and other sensitive locations.
According to the railway administration, drone surveys are also being carried out along railway tracks to help detect unauthorised activities. Body-worn cameras have been deployed at sensitive locations to improve transparency during enforcement.
The railway administration said action was taken against 5,412 alleged illegal vendors in 2025. In 2026, up to 15 July, action had been taken against 2,909 alleged illegal vendors. Between 20 June and 15 July, 401 cases were disposed of under the Jan Vishwas Act.
An official statement said a joint drive by the RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) from 7 to 13 July resulted in action against 148 alleged illegal vendors under Section 144 of the Railways Act, while 59 cases were registered under Section 147. Railway authorities said similar enforcement drives and technology-based monitoring will continue to support passenger safety and railway operations.
