No need for RO water in Bhopal, says mayor

Bhopal: Mayor Malti Rai on Tuesday said residents receiving treated water from the Upper Lake supply system do not need to install RO (reverse osmosis) purifiers, asserting that the municipal supply is safe.

Rai made the statement after inspecting the municipal water filtration plant located opposite the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. She was accompanied by members of the municipal MIC and senior civic officials.

During the visit, officials demonstrated the complete treatment process of raw water drawn from the Upper Lake (Bada Talab), including filtration and laboratory testing before distribution across the city. Water quality checks were also conducted on site.

The mayor said complaints had been received from several areas regarding low water pressure during the summer season, when demand increases. She said the inspection was aimed at reviewing the supply system and addressing public grievances.

“After reviewing the entire process, I can say that residents in areas receiving Upper Lake water do not need RO systems as the supply is properly treated,” Rai said.

During the inspection, a laboratory-tested water sample was consumed by BJP district president Ravindra Yati and Superintending Engineer Udit Garg after officials certified it as safe.

Bhopal’s drinking water supply comes from four main sources  Upper Lake, Kolar Dam, Kerwa Dam and the Narmada River. While the Kolar system supplies a large part of the city, other sources serve areas including Lalghati, Kohefiza, Kolar Road colonies and parts of the Hoshangabad Road corridor.
