Ratibad police in Bhopal have registered an FIR against IPL cricketer Shashank Singh, his father and retired Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Shailesh Singh, and another accused after a cook alleged that he was assaulted, abused and forced to work at their residence.
Police said the FIR was registered on Monday under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case is under investigation.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Vipendra Singh, 31, a resident of Rewa district, who had been hired as a cook at the family’s house on Mendori Road near the DPS Square in Neelbad. He alleged that he was offered a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 along with food and accommodation.
“The FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint and the available facts. The investigation is underway,” a police official said.
The complainant alleged that he was abused after the family was unhappy with the food he prepared. He claimed that when he refused to continue working, retired IPS officer Shailesh Singh took away his mobile phone and forced him to keep working.
Vipendra further alleged that he later locked himself inside a room to protect himself. He claimed that Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh and another accused then assaulted him. He also alleged that his mobile phone is still in their possession.
The complainant further claimed that he had travelled to Bhopal after being told that working at the retired officer’s residence could later help him secure a government job. Police have not confirmed this claim, and it remains part of the complaint.
Police said the FIR was registered after examining the complaint, recording the statements of the complainant and a witness, and reviewing the available material.
“The FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint and the available facts. The investigation is underway,” a police official said.
No response from Shailesh Singh or Shashank Singh was immediately available at the time of publication.
