Water Contamination Scare in Indore

INDORE: At least 10 people have reportedly fallen ill after suspected sewage contamination of the drinking water supply in Mahavir Nagar, a locality in Indore’s Ward 16, according to media reports.

Residents have complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and nausea over the past several days. Preliminary investigations suggest sewage may have entered the area’s only borewell, contaminating the water supplied to households.

Municipal corporation and health department teams visited the affected area after reports of the illnesses emerged. Officials inspected the borewell and water distribution system and collected water samples for laboratory testing to determine the source of the contamination.

Authorities have also launched cleaning and repair work in the locality to prevent further spread of water-borne diseases. Health workers and community staff have begun door-to-door surveys to identify additional cases and distribute oral rehydration salts (ORS) and essential medicines to residents.

According to media reports, some residents said several family members had experienced stomach-related ailments in recent days and alleged that inadequate monitoring of the water supply system contributed to the problem.

Officials have advised residents to boil drinking water before use and seek medical attention if symptoms develop. The cause of the contamination remains under investigation, with laboratory test results awaited.
