BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh has completed the first phase of Census 2027, with House Listing Operations and housing enumeration concluding on May 30, officials said.
The month-long exercise began on May 1 and covered the entire state through a digital data collection process. Enumerators visited households and used a mobile application to record responses to 33 notified questions on housing conditions, amenities and household assets.
The state government offered a self-enumeration facility from April 16 to April 30, allowing residents to submit their information online. More than 700,000 families used the platform, according to officials.
Authorities monitored the exercise through a dedicated online portal to track progress and maintain data quality throughout the operation.
The exercise covered all 55 districts, 425 urban local bodies and 449 tehsils in Madhya Pradesh. It also included 54,923 villages across the state.
Officials created more than 137,000 house-listing blocks for the survey. More than 144,000 enumerators and supervisors carried out the fieldwork, while around 15,000 personnel remained on standby.
Officials said the administration, field staff and residents worked together to complete the exercise within the scheduled timeframe. They also acknowledged the role of traditional and social media in raising awareness about the census process.
The government said all personal information collected during the exercise would remain confidential under the Census Act, 1948, and the Census Rules, 1990.
Authorities said they would use the data only for public welfare programmes and policy planning. The Government of India will release the results after the completion of the census process.
With the housing enumeration phase complete, attention will now turn to Population Enumeration, the second phase of Census 2027.
Officials plan to conduct the population count in February 2027.
