PM Modi Security Lapse: Six Karnataka Police Personnel Suspended

A major PM Modi security lapse has led to the suspension of six Karnataka Police personnel, including a sub-inspector, after suspicious explosive materials were found near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy route during his May 10 visit to the Art of Living Foundation campus in Bengaluru.

The suspended personnel were attached to Bengaluru South district police. Superintendent of Police R Sinivas Gowda ordered the disciplinary action nearly two weeks after the recovery of explosive materials near Kuppareddy Kere, around 2 km from the AOL centre.

PM Modi Security Lapse Raises Questions Over VIP Protection

Police recovered two gelatin sticks, batteries, wires, matchsticks, camphor, a real-time clock and an LCD display packed inside a carton box. Officials found the box near the compound wall of a private property, roughly 25 feet away from the road used for the Prime Minister’s movement.

A police constable reportedly noticed the suspicious package around 90 minutes before the Prime Minister’s convoy crossed the route.

The National Investigation Agency later examined the case after local police initially disclosed only the presence of gelatin sticks and a matchbox. Further inspection revealed additional electronic components inside the carton.

Teams from Karnataka Police visited neighbouring districts, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh during the investigation. Officers from the Intelligence Bureau also inspected the site.

According to the forensic laboratory report, the explosive materials did not pose an immediate danger. Experts said the gelatin sticks were nearly three years old, the timer device was non-functional and the package did not contain a detonator.

Despite the findings, the PM Modi security lapse has triggered concerns over field-level vigilance and security preparedness during high-profile political visits.

“Even inactive explosive material near a Prime Ministerial convoy route is treated as a serious security concern by investigating agencies.”
