Madhya Pradesh pays Rs 10,403 crore to wheat farmers, procurement continues till May 23

Madhya Pradesh wheat procurement operations continued at full pace on Friday as the state government paid Rs 10,403.17 crore to farmers under the support price system. Mohan Yadav directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of procurement centres to ensure timely payments and smooth arrangements for farmers across the state.

Officials said wheat procurement will continue till May 23.

State procures 56.45 lakh metric tonnes of wheat

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput said procurement agencies have purchased 56.45 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from 9.38 lakh farmers so far.

He said the government has extended the timing for generating weighing slips from 6 pm to 10 pm. Authorities can now issue payment bills till midnight to speed up the process. Procurement centres operate six days a week from Monday to Saturday.

The minister said the government increased the number of weighing machines at procurement centres from four to six. District administrations can now approve additional weighing machines according to local demand.

The state also expanded the capacity of NIC servers to avoid technical delays during procurement. The Food Department monitors procurement activity every hour, officials said.

Government strengthens facilities at procurement centres

Rajput said authorities have arranged drinking water, shaded seating areas and other basic facilities for farmers at procurement centres.

Officials have also ensured the availability of gunny bags, weighing machines, labourers, stitching machines, computers, internet connectivity and quality testing equipment. Centres have installed fans and sieves to clean produce before procurement.

Authorities are uploading photographs of facilities available at procurement centres on the Government of India’s PCSAP portal.

The state government is procuring wheat at Rs 2,625 per quintal, including the minimum support price of Rs 2,585 per quintal and a state bonus of Rs 40 per quintal.

Officials said the government has made adequate storage arrangements for safe handling of procured wheat. Agencies are using both jute bags and PP/HDP bags for storage and transport.

Farmers praise arrangements at centres

Farmer Ramcharan Anna said his tractor trolley was unloaded within 10 minutes at the procurement centre.

“There are proper arrangements for water, seating and shade. Farmers do not face inconvenience here,” he said.

Another farmer, Gopal Singh, said the centre had good facilities for farmers, including water, shaded areas and seating arrangements.

“Farmers can sit comfortably both inside and outside the centre. Tents and shaded spaces have been arranged properly,” he said.
